Two James, founded in 2012, is the first legal distillery in Detroit since Prohibition. You read that right, Detroit was (legal) distillery-free since 1933, for nearly 80 years! But then came David Landrum, who thought his home city and his favorite city in the world, the great city of Detroit, deserves some nice handcrafted, locally-made, community-building Spirits.
Two James is all about supporting everything local and sticking together. So when the corona pandemic hit, the distillery pivoted to produce hand sanitizers with resources they had at hand. They were distributed free of charge to hospitals, first responders, and other institutions, vital to the community.
But back to making more delicious liquids - Two James Old Cockney Barrel Reserve Gin is a work of art. Made from the same botanicals as the traditional Old cockney (the goodies include juniper, of course, along with the orange peel, coriander, orris root, angelica root, and many more), this Gin is then finished for just under six months in new, charred American oak barrels. Aging gives this already complex-flavored Gin an extra depth. The deep floral notes give space to the bright vanilla and nutmeg, with just a hint of tannin to round up the flavors.
